History, Art, and Culture in the Store of the Seafaring People
Over more than 100 years, Lucarda has witnessed the changes that have affected not only fashion, but also shipping, the port of Genoa, the historic center, and the city as a whole. Entering Lucarda today is like stepping into the past: a living archive displaying vintage garments, historic supplies, and culturally significant objects. The interior, from the sign to the upper floor, has remained unchanged since its founding and reflects Genoese style, enriched with memorabilia from the era of ocean liners and other historic events. Lucarda is synonymous with history and culture; aware of its importance, the shop participates in projects aimed at preserving and promoting cultural production, collaborating with local artists and organizations. We also welcome guided tours organized by organizations such as Arte e Musei Italia.
Our Exhibition, now virtual
An Anthropology of life at sea
The Anthropological Exhibition “I Venti del Mare” (The Winds of the Sea) was organized at the Galata Museum of the Sea – MUMA Genoa (the largest maritime museum in the Mediterranean) to celebrate the centenary of the shop, honoring the men and women of the sea who bought and wore Lucarda. Their lives have intertwined with the shop’s history for an entire century. The exhibition is permanently on display in the shop and is also available in a digital version.
NOTE: the exhibition is in Italian language only.
The "Old" Genoa of Luzzati in the Shop
Between 1945 and 1950, renowned Genoese artist Emanuele Luzzati created a series of drawings dedicated to "old" Genoa. Through these works, he depicted the city's views and atmospheres, capturing the essence of its historical and cultural heritage and conveying its charm and identity. Among the subjects depicted, the Lucarda sign stands out, symbolizing a tradition that has always lived on in the imagination of the Genoese. To celebrate and promote this important artistic heritage, a collaboration was born between Lucarda, Casa Luzzati, and the Lele Luzzati Foundation. This project unites art and culture, while also highlighting the fundamental role of the Botteghe Storiche (Historical Workshops) in preserving and transmitting the city's memory. Seven reproductions from this fascinating series will be permanently exhibited within the Bottega. This is a unique opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in Luzzati's artistic legacy and rediscover Genoa through his eyes, within the walls of a building that still tells the story of the city today.
