English Peacoat
629,00 €
The English Peacoat was born in the 18th century within the Royal Navy, where it was worn by sailors as a practical and durable garment to withstand the harsh conditions of the North Sea. Made from heavy dark blue wool cloth, the “pilot coat” — later called the pea coat from the Dutch term pijjekker (derived from pij, a type of coarse wool) — featured a short, double-breasted cut, wide lapels, and large metal or bone buttons to provide warmth and protection against the sea wind. Over time, the Peacoat was also adopted by British naval officers, becoming a symbol of discipline, sturdiness, and maritime style. After the wars, the coat entered civilian fashion, maintaining its simple and functional character while taking on an elegant and urban connotation, transforming into a timeless icon of classic English clothing.
